Interview with Riki Ott

A_riki_harbor_best_pictureIt was 16 years ago this week that the Exxon Valdez ran
aground, triggering the worst oil spill in history and transforming the
tranquil and pristine Prince William Sound
into a toxic wasteland. A_riki_ott_sound_truth_cover_1The legacy of that pivotal event is the subject of a
new book by Dr.
Riki Ott, Sound Truth and Corporate Myth$: the legacy of the Exxon Aldez oil spill.
We’ll hear why Dr.Ott’s scientific research
has convinced her that oil is more toxic to humans and the environment than
anyone ever thought.
In what’s being called the “Silent Spring”
of oil, Dr. Ott’s book is an urgent call for clean alternatives to fossil
fuels.
And on that note we’ll tell you how you can participate in the second Fossil

Let’s take our heads out of the sand!

Listen_2Robert Wickline has accepted to post on our blog a sample of the song he composed that is the theme song of EcoTalk:
LET’S TAKE OUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND!  LISTEN

Here are the corresponding lyrics
I had a dream the other night!
Now in my dream, our national bird had become…
The ostrich!

(Verse I)
How much can she take? How much can she give?
How much is too much and how much longer can she live?
As we turn our backs and turn our eyes and pretend we don’t see!
If ignorance is bliss, then full of bliss are we.

Verse II
As we take, take, take, take, take, take
Like a good mother, Mother Nature keeps giving,
But her heart must be ready to break!
She’s been abused and overused
by her children who choose to ignore!
There is only so much she can give
before she can give no more.

Chorus I
Let’s take our heads out of the sand and open our eyes!
Let’s take our heads out of the sand and finally realize
that our tomorrows will depend on what we do today!
Let’s need not greed lead the way!

Verse III
We poison the air and poison the land and
poison the water we drink
and we are the only known creatures in the whole universe
with the ability to think,
but we keep on thinking happiness lies
in how much we buy and sell,
and more and more of Paradise is lost and only time will tell!

Bridge
What will become of mother Nature in coming years,
when we will have 10 billion neighbors on this sphere?
Will our children’s children wake up to the "American Dream"?
or will it become a nightmare beyond imagining?

          Chorus II
Let’s take our heads out of the sand and open up our eyes!
Let’s take our heads out of the sand and finally realize
that out tomorrows will depend on what we do today!
Let’s need not greed lead the way!
